A Confederation of African Football (CAF) technical inspection team has arrived in Nairobi ahead of the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations.

Kenya will co-host the tournament with Uganda and Tanzania.

Sports Cabinet Secretary Salim Mvurya received the delegation, which is led by CAF Head of Competitions Khaled Nassar.

Mvurya said Kenya remains committed to meeting CAF requirements and delivering a successful tournament.

CAF to Inspect key Facilities

The inspection follows recent PAMOJA Oversight Committee meetings involving the three host countries.

Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania reaffirmed their commitment to hosting a successful AFCON.

Mvurya said the tournament presents a major opportunity for East Africa.

He noted that the region will be hosting a continental football tournament of this scale for the first time.

The CAF team will inspect competition venues, training grounds and supporting infrastructure in Nairobi.

It will then travel to Eldoret to assess Kipchoge Keino Stadium as a possible alternative competition venue.

The team will also inspect proposed training grounds, hotels and medical facilities in Eldoret.

Kenya Targets lasting AFCON Legacy

Mvurya said hosting AFCON forms part of the government’s wider investment in sports development.

He said the tournament could create opportunities for young people, boost sports tourism and attract investment.

Kenya is also working with Uganda and Tanzania to improve cross-border movement during the tournament.

Mvurya said the three countries are discussing the implementation of a single visa for visitors traveling within the region during AFCON.

He added that Kenya remains focused on completing the required infrastructure.

The government also wants AFCON 2027 to leave a lasting sporting and economic legacy.
