Kiharu MP Ndindi Nyoro has announced his departure from the United Democratic Alliance (UDA). He declared that he and his supporters have joined the opposition ahead of the 2027 General Election.

Nyoro made the announcement on Monday during an event at Safari Park Hotel in Nairobi, where he confirmed his move to the People’s Party of Kenya.

The lawmaker said the decision followed nearly a year of consultations and personal reflection on the political direction he believes would best serve Kenyans.

Consultations With Opposition Leaders

Nyoro revealed that he held descussions with several opposition figures during the period, including former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, People’s Liberation Party (PLP) leader Marthe Karua, former Cabinet Secretaries Peter Munya and Fred Matiang’i, Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka and Siaya Governor James Orengo,

He said the consultations were driven by the need to determine the political path that would best serve the interests of Kenyans ahead of the 2027 elections.

“I have been carrying a heavy burden. I have been thinking and praying that in whatever direction I take, politically speaking, the people of Kenya must be the great consideration that I have,” Nyoro said.

Nyoro Reflects on His Government Experience

The Kiharu MP said his time in government had enabled him to assess the country’s performance across various sectors and identify areas that require change.

He said his goal was to help ensure Kenya becomes a better country after the 2027 elections, drawing lessons from his experince in governance.

Nyoro also acknowledged the difference between seeking political office and running government.

“Through the lessons of campaigns and the lessons during governance, I have come to appreciate that is easier to campaign than to govern,” he said.

Nationwide Political Tours Planned

Nyoro announced plans to embark on political tours across the country, with Uasin Gishu, Kericho and Nandi among the counties he intends to visit.

He said the tours would allow him to engage directly with voters and discuss what happened to the government that elected in 2022.

Nyoro urged Kenyans to consider the People’s Party of Kenya alongside other opposition parties when evaluating leaders seeking to take over the government after the 2027 elections.

He also expressed support for cooperation among opposition parties, saying his new party would work with political formations that share similar objectives.

Nyoro Takes Aim at UDA

The MP said his decision was partly influenced by his dissatisfaction with UDA, which he referred to as the “wheelbarrow party”.

He claimed that he and his supporters had already distanced themselves form the ruling party before formally making the move into the opposition.

“Mimi kama Ndindi Nyoro na wafuasi wangu, kutoka leo, nimeingia chama inaitwa People’s Party of Kenya. As all members of the People’s Party of Kenya, we have today joined the opposition,” he said.
