Kenya Police Bullets head coach David Vijago is confident his side can win the 2026 CECAFA Women’s Challenge and secure a historic first qualification for the CAF Women’s Champions League.

The Kenyan champions opened their CAF Women’s Champions League CECAFA qualifying campaign with an impressive 2-1 victory over Tanzanian champions Simba Queens at Kigali Pele Stadium on Monday.

Faith Mboya opened the scoring for Police in the 17th minute before Martha Amunyolete added another in the 80th minute.

New signing Senaf Wakuma found the net for Simba Queens, but her effort was not enough to deny the Kenyan side victory.

Vijago Targets Champions League Qualification

The win handed Police Bullets a perfect start as they seek to improve on last season’s campaign, when they narrowly missed out on qualification for the continental tournament.

Vijago, who succeeded Harambee Starlets coach Beldin Odemba as Police head coach in October 2025, praised his players and technical team for overcoming a strong Simba Queens side.

The tactician acknowledged that Police Bullets entered the encounter as underdogs against the former CECAFA champions but said determination helped his players secure the three points.

He expressed confidence ahead of their preliminary fixture against Burundi’s Top Girls Academy, with Police Bullets targeting another victory and ultimately the regional title.

Police Bullets Warn Next Opponents

Striker Terry Engesha Obunyu also expressed confidence following the opening victory, attributing the result to the team’s preparations and tactical approach.

Obunyu said Police Bullets successfully exploited weaknesses in Simba’s midfield and promised an equally competitive performance against Top Girls Academy.

The Kenyan said has been placed in Group C alongside Simba Queens and Top Girls Academy, with the group winner progressing to the semi-finals.

Police Bullets are seeking to go one better than their previous campaign by securing a place in the CAF Women’s Champions League for the first time.

The qualifying competition features six regional tournaments, which determine the teams that advance to the continental championship.
