Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes has been named the Professional Footballers’ association (PFA) Player of the Year following an impressive 2025/2026 campaign.

The Portuguese midfielder claimed the men’s award on Tuesday, while Manchester City’s Khadija Shaw secured the women’s honor for the second time.

Bruno Fernandes enjoyed a remarkable individual season, breaking the Premier League record for assists after setting up 21 goals, surpassing the previous benchmark held by Thierry Henry and Kevin De Bruyne.

The 31-year-old also contributed nine league goals as Manchester United recovered from a difficult start to finish third under Michael Carrick and secure a return to the Champions League.

The PFA honor adds to Bruno Fernandes’ individual accolades after he was also named the Football Writers’ Association Footballer of the Year in May.

Bruno Fernandes described winning an award voted for by fellow professional players as a proud moment, highlighting the significance of receiving recognition from opponents he regularly faces on the pitch.

Meanwhile, Khadija Shaw claimed the women’s award after scoring 21 goals to secure her third consecutive Golden Boot while helping Manchester City win their first Women’s Super League title in a decade.

O’Reilly Takes Young Player Award

Manchester City enjoyed further recognition as Nico O’Reilly was named the men’s Young Player of the Year.

The 21-year-old scored twice in the League Cup final victory over Arsenal and was also part of the City squad that lifted the FA Cup.

O’Reilly described the campaign as a memorable one after winning two trophies with his club and representing England at the World Cup.

He was also named the PFA Team of the Year alongside Manchester City teammates Erling Haaland, Rayan Cherki and Antonie Semenyo.

Premier League champions Arsenal had five players selected: David Raya, Gabriel, William Saliba, Jurrien Timber and Declan Rice. Fernandes and Brentford striker Igor Thiago completed the XI.
